In Sam Pynn – The Mix, Sam decides to create a perfect space for herself, drawing on inspiration from incredible home tours that feature her favourite styles. The eclectic mix of styles includes “Eco Mod” (think linens and wood accessories), “Dorothy Draper Decorates” (never before seen colour combinations), “Belgian Farmhouse” (gold lamp bases and metallic linen), “Equestrian” (very moody colours) and “Globetrotting” (think Morocco).

 

The finished space is a bold and beautiful mix of each interior, where drama is tempered with natural textures and solid linens (for visual reprieve). Sam uses a mix of furniture from all eras and each piece reads as art in the room! But everything is balanced, dark with light.

 

The Mix Webisodes:

In the short webisodes, Sam gives us access to some of the city’s most gorgeous and innovative spaces. We tour 14 different spaces—1 per webisode. Each is attached to a designer. The spaces are high-end, and each has a unique style. They aren’t looks we’ve seen before. There is no straight up mid-century modern, or French country. In fact, Sam comes up with her own unique name for each “look”—names such as “glamorous mix-master” (see example below). In each space, she presents and defines the overall look, and then highlights 4 or 5 key elements.


SAM PYNN

Sam Pynn is a decorator, stylist, host of the web series "The Switch" on HGTV.ca. She's also the host and principal designer of "Pure Design" on HGTV, the Contributing Design Editor for Style at Home magazine and a columnist for the National Post.

 

Her entry into the world of decorating and design began 11 years ago as a location scout for commercials and music videos in Toronto. Within a few years, she had parlayed that talent into an illustrious career in the design department at Style at Home magazine. As the mag's Design Editor, she quickly became responsible for producing big stories on the hottest décor trends, coming up with design concepts for many of the articles, producing makeovers, and scouting homes featured in the magazine.

 

The long hours and hard work quickly paid off and her career skyrocketed. Sam's flirty, fresh style was quickly noticed by the producers of the popular daytime TV show, "CityLine" on Citytv, where she has been a regular guest expert for six years.

 

As principal designer on "Pure Design", Sam works with her clients to create personal, layered and inviting interiors. From nurseries and bedrooms to kitchens, living and dining rooms, it's most important to Sam that her clients love their spaces.

 

Sam is excited to be working on a new web series, two one-hour specials, and a television series which will debut in 2011.
